The 1812 Bicentennial HistoryFest and the Algoma Arts Festival Association are each getting $75,000 in Celebrate Ontario cash for 2013 activities.
Some of the money will help continue of the War of 1812 commemoration by building on existing events (HistoryFest) and expanding nautical programming that will support the Sails on the St. Marys Tall Ship® Tour event this summer.
“This funding supports our overall efforts to build on the awareness of Algoma as a cultural tourist destination,” says Kathy Fisher, co-chair, Algoma 1812.
Meanwhile, Donna Hilsinger, president, of the Algoma Fall Festival Association, adds: “This is our third year of partnership with Celebrate Ontario and the Algoma Fall Festival and our entire community has benefited from the increased number of visitors to the Sault. We have exciting things planned for this October!”
“Festivals like these draw visitors from near and far, generating more local business and helping to create jobs in Sault Ste. Marie,” notes Sault MPP David Orazietti in a news release. “Celebrate Ontario funding is one important way to support these wonderful local festivals and events that bring so much life to our community.”
