The War of 1812 Bicentennial commemoration

TOLEDO — The University of Toledo and ProMedica commemorated the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812, with a special event called, “The Surgical Treatment of Battle Injuries – 1812 and 2012.”

The event was hosted at The Toledo Hilton on the University of Toledo’s Health and Science Campus.

Walter Rybka, the Senior Captain of the U.S. Brig NIAGARA gave a presentation titled, “A Remarkable Survival Rate: Usher Parsons and the Treatment of the Battle of Lake Erie’s Wounded.”

Another presentation was titled, “War Injuries and Management – Iraq and Afghanistan.” A keynote lecture was given, entitled, “A Historical Overview of Battle Injuries – A View from Within.”

Dr. Jeffery Gold, the session leader, stated, “it is the tri-partake mission of the University of Toledo to improve the human condition, to do that through education…through research…through clinical care and indeed this afternoon’s meeting…is very much in line with that mission.”
