CHAMPION — The town of Champion historian has put together a War of 1812 display.

To commemorate the bicentennial of the war against England, Lynn Thornton highlighted the involvement of two Champion residents. Town founder Noadiah Hubbard was a captain who drilled his unit on the Champion green and Joel Rice was a private who wrote in his diary about his trek to Sackets Harbor, arriving too late to fight. The display will be up at the town office, 10 N. Broad St., West Carthage, until mid-October.
