YOUNGSTOWN — Stamp enthusiasts will have a chance to add a piece of history to their collections when the United States Postal Service, in cooperation with Old Fort Niagara, hosts a special pictorial postmark event at the  Fort’s  Visitor Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday.

This event is part of the War of 1812 Bicentennial and revolves around the release of the Postal Service’s new U.S.S. Constitution Commemorative Stamp.

The 2012 issue “Forever Stamp” featuring “Old Ironsides” has a formal first-day release of Aug. 18 in Boston.

The stamp features Constitution as depicted in the oldest known illustration of the ship, a circa 1803 painting by Michele Felice Corne which is housed at the U.S.S. Constitution Museum in Boston. Stamps and a special 1812 pictorial postmark will be available at the Old Fort Niagara Visitor Center during the event.
