DETROIT (AP) — U.S. Navy officials will hold a news conference to announce their Detroit plans to mark the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.

The conference scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the Detroit-Wayne County Port Authority will preview the Navy’s plans for Sept. 4-10 in the city. The events are officially known as the Navy’s Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and Detroit Navy Week.

Ships of the Navy, Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy are scheduled to visit the city during next month’s events. Also planned are ship tours, concerts and other riverfront events.

Michigan was a key area of conflict in the war, with U.S. and British land and naval forces clashing over control of what now is Canada.
