FORT JENNINGS – Amy Luebrecht, officer-in-charge at the Fort Jennings Post Office has announced that the U.S. Postal Service is offering a special bicentennial cancellation celebrating Fort Jennings’ 200th birthday and honoring its rich history as a fort in the War of 1812. The special cancelation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 9 to 11 a.m. inside the Fort Jennings Post Office retail window and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside in front of the Fort Jennings Post Office, 20 S. Water St. in Fort Jennings.
The Fort Jennings 1812 Bicentennial will be a three day celebration dedicated to the town’s rich history as a fort in the War of 1812. Many of the events will honor our nation’s military past and present.
The Fort Jennings Post Office will also be selling The War of 1812: USS Constitution commemorative stamp which goes on sale Aug. 18. It is the first stamp in a series commemorating the bicentennial of the War of 1812. The USS Constitution is a $9 souvenir sheet which may not be split, and the stamps may not be sold individually.
Special cancellations are collectors’ items, making excellent commemorative souvenirs of special dates and events. Customers are encouraged to bring their own envelopes for the cancellations to the Fort Jennings Post Office.
Mail order requests for the special cancellation may be made for 30 days beginning August 18 and should be sent to the Fort Jennings Post Office, 20 S. Water Street, Fort Jennings, OH 45844. Customers are reminded to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return mailing of cancelled items.
