Wreath-Laying Marks 200th Anniversary Of War

Total News Service Reporting
PORTLAND, Maine – Portland Mayor Michael Brennan and a military honor guard paid tribute to soldiers who died in the War of 1812 yesterday during a wreath-laying ceremony on the Promenade.

The ceremony marked the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and honored 21 soldiers buried on the Promenade who were on a British ship that arrived in Maine following the Battle of Queenston.

Heavy rains followed the ceremony and forced the postponement of last night’s scheduled fireworks display.
