The Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse garden is one of 21 Bicentennial peace gardens on a trail covering the southern shores of Lake Ontario and other historic locations associated with the War of 1812. The trail also extends into Ontario, Canada. Presently, 18 of these gardens are located in New York State.
The garden consists of four displays, the first of which describes the invasion of the area on Oct. 1, 1812 by British troops. The other panels each describe another event in the Charlotte area that occurred up until 1814. The garden is filled with flowers and flags and will be a permanent display on the grounds of the lighthouse.
