Governor General of Canada, David Johnston received a warm welcome today as the 1812 ceremonies get underway in Niagara on the Lake. Other dignitaries included Justice Minister Rob Nicholson, Minister of Tourism Michael Chan, Legacy Council CEO Brian Merrett, Regional Chair Gary Burroughs, Lord Mayor of Niagara on the Lake David Eke, and Janice Thomson Chairperson of The Niagara Parks Commission
Along with a speech in Queenston Heights The Governor took a tour of Brocks monument.
Later he stopped at the Laura Secord Homestead for a brief tour then suited up for a 12 kilometre bike ride to Fort George.
