Sailabration could pack Baltimore restaurants

The Star-Spangled Sailabration, an international parade of more than 40 tall ships and naval vessels, starts Thursday. The maritime festival marks the national launch of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner.

Organizers are hoping for up to a million visitors to visit Baltimore during the maritime festival, which begins on Wednesday with the arrival of 18 tall ships into Baltimore’s harbor.

Some 30 restaurants are offering prix-fixe menus for Sailabration. You can see the offers here.

Restaurants located near the Sailabration Villages at the Inner Harbor, Fort McHenry and in Fells Point will fill their decks without using press gangs.

The Wine Market has a great offer, though — a parking lot. A comfortable walk from Fort McHenry, the Locust Point restaurant is letting guests use its parking lot “in combination with (a) visit to 1812/ Fort McHenry events.” The key word is “guests” — so, don’t try anything funny. And from Tuesday to Sunday, the restaurant is offering a $33 three-course Sailabration menu. You can see the menu here.

The culinary centerpiece to Sailabration is Galley Works, a showcase for Baltimore cuisine located in Bicentennial Plaza near the Baltimore Visitor Center.  There, the Ports America Chesapeake Demo Kitchen will present cooking demonstrations from area restaurants such as Bistro 300 at Hyatt Regency Baltimore, Fleet Street Kitchen, and Waterfront Kitchen. Winners will be announced for the Best Served Cold Competition, Big Daddy Crab Cake Competition and the Sweet Sailing Cupcake Competition.
