- WASAGA BEACH – Barcelos
- Restaurant will be serving a new wine in commemoration of the War of 1812 bicentennial. The wine, made by Plantine Hills Estate Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, is called 1812 and Barcelos will be the only place it is available in Wasaga Beach.
A portion of the proceeds from wine sales will go to the Friends of Nancy Island and Wasaga Beach Park.
Terry Gibson, of Palatine Hills, said the creation of wine was inspired by the history of the vineyard. Artifacts from the War of 1812 were found on the property.
He said two 1812 wines, a merlot cabernet and a chardonnay, are being marketed in areas that have historical significance in connection with the War of 1812.
A percentage of all sales will be donated to local volunteer groups throughout Ontario. Gibson said Palatine Hills expects to donate about $80,000 throughout the province.
Barcelos is located at 22 Sunnidale Rd.
